The Centre for the Study of Security and Development (CSSD) and the Department of Political Science at Dalhousie University, in partnership with the Canadian International Council (Halifax Branch) and the MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance, held the 2026 Glyn Berry Roundtable. This year’s roundtable convenes a distinguished panel of scholars to examine the implications of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s January 2026 address at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Centre for Study of Security and Development held a discussion titled “Puppet Masters and Peacekeepers: A Conversation about the Past, Present, and Future of Proxy Wars”. This event was led by Jekobe Craig (POLI MA Candidate) and Cora Fletcher (POLI MA Candidate).

The International Development Studies (IDS) and the Centre for Study of Security and Development (CSSD) held a panel discussion titled USAID and the Future of International Development Assistance.

The Jean Monnet European Union Centre of Excellence and the Centre for the Study of Security and Development held the 2025 Glyn Berry Roundtable on Canada, The European Union and the Trump Challenge.

CSSD hosted a roundtable on Adrift Abroad? Canada in the Post-Trudeau/Pre-Trump world, with Dr. Leigh Spanner, Dr. Maya Eichler, Dr. Brian Bow, and Dr. John Cameron, each bringing their expertise to illuminate this critical topic.

Prof. Norrin Ripsman of Lehigh University, gave a talk titled "Making sense of the Collapse of the Liberal International Order'.

CSSD hosted a roundtable on Life After Dal, featuring Dalhousie University’s Political Science department alumni: Adam MacDonald, Nafisa Abdulhamid, Hannah Forsyth, and Charles Humphrey. These accomplished speakers will share their unique journeys and insights into life beyond university, offering valuable advice to students and recent graduates.

CSSD and JMEUCE co-organized a workshop at Dalhousie, Aug 24-25. Participants explored the complex links between climate change, security, and migration. For more info, click on the Projects page.

CSSD hosted the Canadian ambassador to Japan, Ian McKay, who gave a presentation titled “Canada, Japan, and the Indo-Pacific Strategy.”
