The Mohini Mathur Memorial Bursary in Indian Studies - Essay submission deadline is Monday, February 22!
The Mohini Mathur Memorial Bursary in Indian Studies will be awarded to a student registered as a Dalhousie University Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences student (BA, MA or PhD) with a sincere and demonstrated interest in pursuing the study of Indian thought and ideas, these can include (but are not limited to) Indian philosophical systems, Hinduism or any branch of Hindu Religion, the Sanskrit language, Indian literature, or other traditions of India's intellectual heritage.
Please note there are two parts to this application process:
1) A one - two page (maximum) letter of application (double-spaced, 12 pt font) to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dean’s Office, Attention Mohini Mathur Memorial Bursary Committee, no later than 4:30 pm AST February 22, 2021 demonstrating their interest in this field of study.
The amount of this bursary for the 2020-21 academic year is $1000.

The Shaar Shalom Lecture at Dalhousie University
Wednesday, February 24, 2021 7:00 p.m. AST
This year's lecture will be presented virtually and will feature Dahabo Ahmed-Omer and Wes Hall of The BlackNorth Initiative. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions to our guest speakers.
The Shaar Shalom Lecture at Dalhousie University is a significant annual lecture made possible through the generosity of the Shaar Shalom Synagogue of Halifax. Shaar Shalom’s unique partnership with Dalhousie University seeks to explore the broad themes of tolerance, multiculturalism, diversity, and difference in contemporary society, and demonstrates our shared interest in bringing in-depth discussion of these themes to wider civil society
Upcoming Online Events Featuring FASS Faculty Members
Margaret Robinson, Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Reconciliation, Gender, & Identity; Coordinator, Indigenous Studies; and Assistant Professor in the departments of English and Sociology & Social Anthropology will be presenting “Reefers and rainbows: Bisexual women’s cannabis use” as part of the Cannabis Knowledge Exchange Virtual Forum on Thursday, February 4, 2021. This event is hosted by the Centre for Addiction & Mental Health, The Mental health Commission of Canada, and the University of Toronto.
Ajay Parasram, Assistant Professor in the departments of International Development Studies and History will co-host the February edition of Safe Space for White Questions on Wednesday, February 24 at 12:30pm AST.
The Res Publica society is pleased to announce that this year’s Pythian Games are on!
This year, we’ll be doing things virtually and everyone who wants to participate will have the opportunity. Please send us your performance in a video or audio format. You can film or record yourself, but you’re also welcome to animate, draw, or create in any medium you prefer. As always, any and all submissions in ancient and modern languages will be accepted. There will be a live component with the King and Queen of the games, the faculty, and the Res Publica executive for the airing and judging of the performances where you’re welcome to join us. There will be the traditional cash prizes, as well as a brand-new demos prize voted on by the audience!
Call for Papers! We are still looking for research papers to include in Pangea - the undergraduate journal edited and published by the Honors History Seminar and the Undergraduate History Society. The journal is a great way to get your work published as an undergrad. Papers should be between 10-20 pages in length, and have received at least and grade of A-. Please follow the Chicago Manual of Style, and put your name only on the title page. All papers should be sent to ughs@dal.ca. The deadline for submission is February 28, 2021. Recipe Book! We are looking for your favourite recipes to include in a department recipe book. Any recipes that are relatively easy to make and/or that you think others would enjoy are welcome. All you need is the source of recipe, a description, a picture (if possible), and the recipe itself. All recipes can be sent to ughs@dal.ca. All recipes should be submitted by February 28.
Pandemic Time Capsule! We are collecting items for our time capsule to be buried in March and opened in 2031. Any items/memories that have impacted or influenced your life during the pandemic (or anything else) can be included. Digital items can be sent to ughs@dal.ca and physical items can be either mailed or dropped off at the Department of History. Email ughs@dal.ca for more information or with questions.

The Dalhousie Graduate History Society
The Graduate History Society will be hosting their annual Graduate History Conference this year on March 11th, 2021 via Teams on the theme of Chaos and Continuity. Any graduate student is welcome to submit a paper or project to the Graduate History Society prior to Feb 20th, 2021 as long as the said paper/project has a historical basis. We ask that within your submission you include a 500-word abstract, a short biography, and the paper itself (if applicable). All submissions and inquiries should be sent to the Graduate History Society (kr216804@dal.ca).
The Dalhousie Undergraduate Political Science Society
The Dalhousie Undergraduate Political Science Society will be accepting submissions to our Podium Journal until Wednesday, February 10.
The Podium is an academic journal featuring the writing of undergraduate Political Science students. This is a peer- reviewed journal and a great opportunity to become a published author!
The SOSA Peer Engagement Project team are excited to inform you that they are going to organize a COFFEE CHAT hangout time every second Thursday from 12:00pm-1:00pm AST starting from February 04, 2021. We will discuss things going on around us and share our feelings with one another. We are also going to organize a FILM NIGHT event on every second Tuesday at 6:00pm AST stating from January 26, 2021. The purpose of these events is to increase network among the SOSA community and to strengthen our network and sense of belonging among each other during this difficult time of the pandemic. So, let’s meet for the COFFEE CHAT to talk to our fellow SOSA members and during the FILM NIGHT to enjoy a movie/documentary together.

The Dalhousie IMPACT Awards is an annual event hosted by the DSU in collaboration with Dalhousie University, to recognize outstanding individuals and student groups that impact our community.

Nominations for 2020-21 are now open and close on February 28, 2021.
We are pleased to announce the launch of an International Student Peer Mentorship Program, an initiative beginning this Winter 2021 term, that will assist new international students in making a successful academic and personal transition to life at Dalhousie.
The program is designed as a peer-to-peer mentorship model where experienced upper year international students (Peer Mentors) are paired with new international students (Peer Mentees). Every effort will be made to match students within their own faculty whenever possible, as we understand some supports may be unique to the faculty.This program will be delivered through the International Centre, who will work to develop and foster relationships with key contacts within the faculties and student service departments.

Dal.ca Web Renewal Project Survey
Dalhousie is embarking on a multi-year project to build a new website and the Web Renewal Project Team wants to hear from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences community on how we can create a better dal.ca.
