Guidance for HCC Summer Guests

Housing & Campus Connections (HCC) welcomes you to Dalhousie University. As part of your stay in Dalhousie residences or facilities, HCC may provide access to University technology such as guest Wi-Fi and related digital services. These services are offered to support a safe, respectful, and positive experience for all guests, students, staff, and visitors on campus. This guide outlines the expectations for using Dalhousie technology during your stay and helps ensure shared services remain available and secure for everyone.

Who This Applies To

This guidance applies to all HCC summer guests, including:

  • Conference and event attendees
  • Residence summer guests
  • Camp participants
  • Visiting groups and short-term occupants

If you are given access to Dalhousie Wi-Fi or systems, these expectations apply to you.

What Technology You Can Use

During your stay, you may be provided with access to:

  • Dalhousie guest Wi-Fi
  • Limited online services required for your accommodation or event

Access is temporary and may be limited in scope or duration.

What We Ask You To Do

When using Dalhousie technology, please:

  • Use it legally, respectfully, and responsibly
  • Use it only for appropriate personal or event-related purposes
  • Keep any login details private and do not share access with others
  • Follow all posted residence, conference, and University guidelines

What You Must Not Do

You must not:

  • Use Dalhousie networks for illegal activities
  • Attempt to access systems, files, or accounts you are not authorised to use
  • Interfere with networks, devices, or other users
  • Download or share harmful software (such as viruses or malware)
  • Use the network to harass, threaten, or harm others
  • Do anything that could disrupt University services or operations

Monitoring and Access

To protect users and systems, Dalhousie may monitor network activity when necessary to:

  • Maintain system security
  • Investigate misuse
  • Meet legal or operational requirements

If This Guidance Is Not Followed

If technology is misused, Dalhousie may:

  • Limit or remove access to Wi-Fi or services
  • Take action under residence, conference, or event rules
  • In serious cases, involve University officials or external authorities
