How I spent my summer: Creating Indigenous community connections

As one of the Faculty of Science’s John Dingle Science Communication interns this summer, Madison Dunbar worked with the Medical Sciences Program’s Inclusive Pathways to Medical Professions (IPMP) cohort initiative, which seeks to increase the representation of Indigenous and African Nova Scotian students in medicine and healthcare programs.

Along with other Dal representatives, Madison visited Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation) and Potlotek First Nation to spread the word about IPMP. “Interacting with the community was the highlight of my summer,” said Madison, who is now in her fourth year of Medical Sciences. Read our Dal News story for more on Madison's summer internship, as well as how Dal is increasing opportunities for Indigenous students.
