Dal Science Spotlight: Dr. Sean Hartery
This week’s Dal Science Spotlight is Dr. Sean Hartery, an instructor in the Department of Physics & Atmospheric Science. Dr. Hartery was nominated by an undergraduate student. “He really cares about his students. If someone reaches out for help, he is very thorough in finding solutions for them,” says the student. “He also participates actively in discussion boards on Brightspace, helping outside of class and office hours. He goes above and beyond and deserves some recognition for his amazing teaching.”

Career Connects alumni panel: Science and Graduate Studies
Students interested in learning more about the career paths of alumni from science-based graduate programs are invited to attend Career Connects, a lunchtime online panel discussion hosted by the Faculties of Science and Graduate Studies on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

The panel will be moderated by Department of Chemistry PhD candidate Joe Bedard, who recently finished in first place at the Falling Walls Science Summit pitch competition in Berlin, Germany. Interested students, faculty and alumni can register to attend via Eventbrite.

Q&A with Falling Walls winner Joe Bedard
This week, Dal News published a Q&A with Department of Chemistry PhD candidate Joe Bedard on his victory at the recent Falling Walls Science Summit pitch competition in Berlin, Germany. Joe emerged from a field of 100 competitors from around the world to win the top prize. His presentation, "Breaking the Wall of Alternative Plastics," explained how nitrogen and phosphorus can be used in place of petrochemicals in the production of plastics. Dean's Office Feed Nova Scotia Chili/Soup Lunch: Wednesday, Nov. 22
All are invited to next week's 11th annual Feed Nova Scotia Chili/Soup Lunch, hosted by the Faculty of Science Dean's Office. With a minimum donation of $5, you can enjoy a bowl of home-made chili or soup. All proceeds support Feed Nova Scotia.

Science co-op students interested in learning more about future career opportunities with Co-operators Insurance are invited to attend a virtual event hosted by Dal's Work Integrated Learning & Co-operative Education on Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 4 to 5 p.m. Students can register through myCareer. An event link will be sent out prior to the session.
Fall 2023 seminars: Department of Economics
The Department of Economics holds departmental seminars on Friday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in room 2198 of the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building. Seminars are open to all interested students, faculty and staff. The final seminar of the semester will be held on Friday, Nov. 24 and features a presentation from Dal's James McNeil titled "The term structure of interest rates in a noisy information model."
