Dr. Kim Brooks announced as Dal's incoming president and vice-chancellor
On Wednesday, Dr. Kim Brooks was announced as Dalhousie's 13th president and vice-chancellor. While best known for her affiliations with the Schulich School of Law and the Faculty of Management, Dr. Brooks is a friend and supporter of the Faculty of Science, and we are proud to see her selected as Dal's next president. Together@Dal: Grad Edition mentors wanted - July 25 deadline

Bridges 2023 Conference on Math and Art
The Bridges 2023 Conference on Math and Art will be held from July 27-31 at Dal's Sexton Campus. The conference includes two events open to all: a public lecture on Thursday, July 27 and a family day at the Halifax Central Library on Sunday, July 30. Undergraduate students who have received a 2023 summer research award are invited to enter the Faculty of Science's summer research contest by summarizing their research in a three-minute, narrated PowerPoint presentation. Dal Bookstore gift cards will be awarded to the top three students. Submissions are due by August 31. Hightlight the work of instructors and advisors in the Dal Science Spotlight
Do you know of an instructor or advisor who is doing great work inside and outside of the classroom? Highlight their contributions by filling out our brief Dal Science Spotlight nomination form. Submissions are welcome from all members of the Dal Science community, including self-nominations from instructors and advisors. The Dal Science Spotlight will begin appearing in the Dean's Office Dispatch newsletter later this summer.
2024 Science as Art calendar photo contest
Submissions for the 2024 Science as Art calendar photo contest are now being accepted. Each year, the Science As Art calendar highlights the beauty of science in everyday life through photos submitted by Dal Science alumni, students, faculty and staff. Learn more about the calendar and see how to submit your photo. Submissions are due by August 31.
Winter 2024 Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Program applications
Applications for winter 2024 placements as part of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarships (QES) program are now open until August 23.
The QES program offers undergraduate students the chance to complete a funded internship for credit at the Cape Eleuthera Institute in The Bahamas. Applicants should have an interest and academic background in environmental science, sustainability, marine science or a related field, and be in at least their third year of studies at the time of the internship placement. Visit Dal’s QES website for complete details on the three types of internships that can be applied for (marine research and conservation, sustainable agriculture, and sustainable systems).
