National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day


On Monday, Sept. 30, Dalhousie observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and will be closed. Dal joins the broader community in memorializing the painful history of the residential school system and recognizing its ongoing impacts. Indigenous-led groups observe this day as Orange Shirt Day and champion the message “Every Child Matters.”

Derek Lewis designed an orange shirt honouring Indigenous children who suffered at residential schools across Canada. Now, all profits from sales of his shirt at the Dal Bookstore are going to support a local Mi'kmaw community centre in Halifax.
