2015 Student Impact Awards

Last Thursday, the Dal community came together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students at the 2015 Impact Awards in Halifax. The Agricultural Campus also celebrated its students at its SAIL Impact Awards this past Monday. Congrats to all the winners! (Look for more Impact Award profiles next week.)

Sharing the goal of a safe, healthy campus

This year the Environmental Health and Safety Award was presented to WorkSAFE@Dal — a collaboration between Custodial Services and the School of Occupational Therapy — and the Killam Library's Health and Safety Committee.

For its final theatre production of the season, the Fountain School of Performing Arts takes on Anton Chekhov's comedy "The Seagull."

Alumni named Atlantic Outstanding Young Farmers for 2015

Agriculture alumni Sara ('05) and David ('07) Simmons run Pure Holsteins dairy farm in Little Rapids, Nfld, and were recently feted by Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers Program.

Status update: Building a work relationship with Facebook

Working out of Facebook's London, England office, Computer Science alumnus Peter O'Hearn develops software tools for the world's most popular social networking site.

RESEARCH

When PhD student Chris Burns and research associate David Stevens noticed strong industry interest in their work with Jeff Dahn's battery lab, they saw an opportunity to translate their battery-testing system to commercial use.

NEWS BITES

Three-Minute Thesis: It's back! Dal's third-annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition begins with open rounds on Thursday, April 9. Come out and watch some of the university's stellar graduate students present their thesis research in enagaging three-minute presentations. Then, check out the top performers as they compete in the Dal finals on April 16. Full details.
