Meet the Class of 2024

One of the Faculty of Science's new graduates crossing the stage today is Aaliyah Arab-Smith, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences and a certificate in Science Communication and Leadership. Born in Halifax, with roots in the African Nova Scotian community, Aaliyah has her sights set on attending medical school. Read our grad profile story on Aaliyah in Dal News. Earlier this week, the University of King's College held its 234th Encaenia ceremony. Among the Class of 2024 were Bachelor of Science grads Lokman Wang and Jack Gillies, who were profiled on the King's website ahead of their graduation. 

Recording: Public lecture from Dr. Austin Mardon

If you were unable to attend Thursday afternoon's public lecture from 2024 Dal honorary degree recipient Dr. Austin Mardon, a recording is available to view on the Faculty of Science YouTube channel. Titled "From Madness to the Order of Canada: My Journey with Schizophrenia as an Academic," the lecture discusses the stigma of mental illness and Dr. Mardon's life and career since his 1992 schizophrenia diagnosis. 

H20 Conference and Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day: June 3-4

Students, did you know that on June 3 and 4, you can attend the H2O Conference for free? Not only that, but on Monday, June 3 from 10:15 am to 3:30 pm, there will be an Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day for students with sessions featuring networking tips and opportunities to hear from industry experts and engage with your peers about the Sustainable Blue Economy. Register now (lunch is included). Registration for the H20 conference is separate and can be done here (attendance is free for students with a valid ID).

Social event for undergraduate student researchers: June 3

Calling all summer research students! The Faculty of Science, led by Dr. Ryan MacDonell in the Department of Chemistry, is hosting a series of monthly social events aimed at bringing undergraduate student researchers together to get to know each other and build a community.

The next meeting is coming up on Monday, June 3 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in room 303 of the Student Union Building. There will be free coffee, cookies, muffins, and other snacks, and registration is not required.

MacEachen Institute 2024 Project Leads Program

The MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance is now accepting Expressions of Interest for the 2024 Project Leads program. This call will remain open until June 15, 2024.

The Project Leads program provides financial and institutional supports for research projects that aim to inform public policy development at the local, regional, and national levels. The program is open to tenure-stream faculty members from the founding faculties of Arts and Social Science, Health, Law, Management, and Sciences.
