Public lecture from Dr. Austin Mardon: May 30
2024 honorary degree recipient Dr. Austin Mardon will deliver a public lecture titled "From Madness to the Order of Canada: My Journey with Schizophrenia as an Academic" on Thursday, May 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the Scotiabank Auditorium in the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building. Neuroscience student named 3M National Student Fellow
Last week, third-year neuroscience student Basmah Hendy was selected as a 3M National Student Fellow, making her one of just 10 students from across Canada to receive the prestigious award from the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. Basmah was selected because of her work to improve access to education and promote inclusivity - her efforts include helping to develop the MAP Mentorship program for local high school students and working with "Team Visual Assist," a group of students, teaching assistants, and instructors evaluating the effectiveness of classroom materials for visually impaired students. This is the second year in a row a Dal Science student was named a 3M Fellow. In 2023, marine biology student Aaron Judah received the honour.
H20 Conference and Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day: June 3-4
Students, did you know that on June 3 and 4, you can attend the H2O Conferencefor free? Not only that, but on Monday, June 3 from 10:15 am to 3:30 pm, there will be an Ocean Career Pathways Exploration Day for students with sessions featuring networking tips and opportunities to hear from industry experts and engage with your peers about the Sustainable Blue Economy. Register now (lunch is included). Registration for the H20 conference is separate and can be done here (attendance is free for students with a valid ID).
Social event for undergraduate student researchers: June 3
Calling all summer research students! The Faculty of Science, led by Dr. Ryan MacDonell in the Department of Chemistry, is hosting a series of monthly social events aimed at bringing undergraduate student researchers together to get to know each other and build a community.
The next meeting is coming up on Monday, June 3from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in room 303 of the Student Union Building. There will be free coffee, cookies, muffins, and other snacks, and registration is not required.
MacEachen Institute 2024 Project Leads Program
The MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance is now accepting Expressions of Interest for the 2024 Project Leads program. This call will remain open until June 15, 2024.
The Project Leads program provides financial and institutional supports for research projects that aim to inform public policy development at the local, regional, and national levels. The program is open to tenure-stream faculty members from the founding faculties of Arts and Social Science, Health, Law, Management, and Sciences. Lab2Market Validate Atlantic Fall 2024
Lab2Market Validate gives researchers the opportunity to critically test and evaluate their ideas in the entrepreneurial landscape. This carefully curated 16-week experience is complemented by funding, exercises, workshops, and mentorship from industry experts – all with exploration at its core. This cohort is open to master's, PhD, postdocs and faculty within Atlantic Canada, with $15,000 in funding. Applicants must be eligible for Mitacs Business Strategy Internship (BSI) program.
