The exam period for the fall semester begins Friday, December 9 and runs until Tuesday, December 20. Mental health resources from Student Health & Wellness

If you are feeling stressed or anxious, Student Health & Wellness offers a variety of supports to students, including same-day counselling. Free and confidential counselling through Good2Talk is also available 24/7/365 by calling 1-833-292-3698 or texting GOOD2TALKNS to 686868. Also, every Thursday from 3 to 4:00 p.m. in the Student Union Building, visit Dal’s therapy dog, Oscar, for Puppy Power Hour.


Emeritus Professor receives Platinum Jubilee Medal

Last week, Emeritus Professor Dr. Marcos Zentilli of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal by Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Arthur LeBlanc for services to international relations. Dr. Zentilli is the Honorary Consul of Chile for the Atlantic Provinces. A photo gallery of the Nov. 24 ceremony is available online.


Aurum Award nominations

Dalhousie is seeking nominations for the 2023 Aurum Awards, which honour Dalhousie alumni for their achievements in innovation, community engagement and leadership, as well as for their contributions to society. Nominations can be made by members of the Dalhousie community. Applications are open until January 13, 2023see how to submit a nomination.


Open Dialogue Live: Clean energy of the next generation

The next edition of Dal Alumni’s Open Dialogue Live series will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. Speakers, including Dal Science alum Dr. Chris Burns (MSc’11, PhD’15), will discuss the clean, renewable energy sources the planet needs to slow climate change. The event will take place in-person in room HA 19 of the Ralph Medjuck Building on the Sexton Campus and will be livestreamed via Dalhousie Alumni and Friends Facebook Live and Dalhousie’s YouTube channel. PhD students: Apply now for the 2023 OpenThink cohort

PhD students with an interest in knowledge translation and sharing their research beyond Dalhousie are invited to apply for a place in the 2023 cohort of the OpenThink initiative. OpenThinkers earn a scholarship of $1,500 and receive communications training on how to write for public audiences, handle media requests, pitch stories and more. You can check out the work of this year’s cohort on the OpenThink blog.Visit the Faculty of Graduate Studies website for the application form and complete details on the OpenThink program.
