Attention grad students, postdocs, and professors! Are you interested in exploring the commercial potential of your research?
The new Lab2Market pilot program, run by Dalhousie, Ryerson, and Memorial Universities, will provide training and support to teams looking to commercialize research emerging from Canadian universities. The focus of the program is to get teams 'out of the lab', talking to customers, partners, competitors, and testing hypothesis to determine if, and what, the commercial potential of a lab-based project or technology is. This is based on the highly successful I-Corps program funded by the US National Science Foundation.
The first Dalhousie cohort will run Sept. 21 - Nov. 6, 2020, with applications due by May 31, 2020. Teams are to consist of a junior researcher (current graduate student, recent graduate, or postdoc), a senior researcher (Principal Investigator), and a business mentor (Lab2Market can assist in finding one). The program involves a 4-day kickoff workshop, followed by a 5 week incubation period with weekly mentoring meetings, and ending with a 2-day closing workshop. Team be awarded $15,000 CAD to cover costs and allow the junior researcher to focus full-time on Lab2Market for 4 months.
As a partner in this program, SURGE will be hosting a drop-in info session (with pizza!) on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. The presentation will be held twice, once at noon and once at 12:30, in the SURGE sandbox, LSC Oceanography 2660. There will be opportunities to ask questions and meet with representatives from the program. Please see the Lab2Market website for more information on the program. Feel free to bring any questions you have to the info session.
