Editor's Note: Dalhousie will be closed on Monday for Heritage Day (see sidebar for more information on this year's honouree). Today@Dal will return Tuesday.
In acknowledgement of the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, this event will raise funds for the Ukrainian Store, a volunteer-run organization in Halifax providing essential household and personal items for Ukrainians displaced by the war now living in our region.
There will be power outages in the Biology wings of the LSC Tuesday February 21 until Friday February 24 (Reading Week). This to upgrade some of our electrical panels.
Oluronke Taiwo has touched the lives of many students over the past 14 years in her role as Black student advisor. Now, as she prepares for retirement, Dal has honoured her with an Award for Black Excellence.
Be Well brings greater alignment between Student Affairs and Human Resources in efforts to address wellness at the university, spurring other powerful collaborations along the way.
Next Monday (Feb. 20), on Nova Scotia Heritage Day, we honour Elder Rita (Bernard) Joe — who was a member of the We’koqma’q Mi’kmaq Community and a published author instrumental in paving the way for other Mi’kmaq authors. Joe, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 74, was widely recognized for her achievements: she was appointed to the Order of Canada, named a member of the Queen's Privy Council, and received several honorary degrees — including one from Dalhousie in 1993 (see image above from the ceremony).
