The Dean's Office Dispatch is the Faculty of Science's weekly e-newsletter for students, faculty and staff. 

LSC Commons Level 3 entrance unavailable starting June 16 

Please note that access to the Life Sciences Centre (LSC) Commons Level 3 entrance (opposite the Henry Hicks Building) will be unavailable starting Monday, June 16 for approximately two weeks as Facilities Management completes work. Other LSC entrances will remain open.

Spring 2025 Convocation: Ceremonies and grad receptions

The Faculty of Science’s Convocation ceremonies will take place on June 18 and 19. Visit Dal’s Convocation website for the complete schedule of ceremonies, webcast info, graduate lists, and more.

Many departments are hosting receptions for their graduates next week. See a schedule of events on our myDal site (login required). 

The Faculty of Science is also hosting celebration events for graduating students who self-identify as Mi'kmaq and/or Indigenous (Monday, June 16) and African Nova Scotian, Black, and/or of African descent (Tuesday, June 17). Graduating students who have not already registered to attend can do so by visiting our myDal site (login required).

Psychology student among Dal's milestone grads

Undergraduate science student Portia Wright is one of Dal's first two graduates of the Black and African Diaspora Studies (BAFD) major, which was introduced in 2023. 

Portia will graduate next week with a BSc with a double major in Psychology and BAFD. James Dixon, with a BA with a double major in BAFD and Philosophy, graduated this week in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences' ceremony. Student position: Help tell Dal’s research story

The Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation is seeking a highly motivated and creative Communications Assistant. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Research and Innovation Communications, the part-time position will support external and internal communications through web and social media content writing, design, and production and other project-related tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for grad students and upper-year undergrads with interests in communications, knowledge translation, and digital media to gain valuable experience in a professional environment.

The position begins as soon as possible and can continue through the fall and winter. Interested students can apply by June 24 via myCareer (login required).

2025 Faculty of Science Summer Institute Series 

This summer, the Faculty of Science is once again offering a series of sessions focused on teaching and learning open to all faculty, staff, and graduate students. No registration is needed. Please join either in-person or online, depending on the format of the session.

The next session, "Crowdmark: Tips and Tricks," will take place on Wednesday, June 25 in-person and online.
