The TOSST Graduate Research School, of which Fish-WIKS Arctic PhD student Mirjam Held is a fellow, organized a session at the EGU General Assembly 2020 exploring interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches for addressing scientific and socio-economic challenges in the North Atlantic region. Mirjam and fellow Marine Affairs/IDPhD student Helen Packer presented (abstract) their research approaches as two case studies to showcase the important role of the social sciences in learning more about the ocean, for sustainable oceans are ultimately a question of ethics, values, beliefs, behaviour, and power - all areas of expertise of the social sciences.
