About VTECS

Since the program launched in 2016, 27 graduates of the VTECS program have gone on to champion the Dallaire Initiative’s mission to prevent and end the use and recruitment of children as weapons of war. VTECS alumni have taken the knowledge they learned and applied it in their careers, through public engagement, and supporting the development of new resources for the Dallaire initiative. In some cases, VTECS have helped facilitate the Dallaire Initiative’s world-class training in countries like Sierra Leone, Kenya, Rwanda and Jordan.

The program will run for the month of July at Dalhousie University and consist of two-credited university courses on international politics and children affected by armed conflict, as well as a specialized Dallaire Initiative program focused on the prevention of the use of child soldiers. The aim of the campus residency is to blend the theoretical perspective and practical skills VTECS graduates will require in supporting the mission of the Dallaire Initiative.
