Truth and Reconciliation Day / Orange Shirt Day
On Monday, September 30, Dalhousie observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Dal joins the broader community in memorializing the painful history of the residential school system and recognizing its ongoing impacts. Indigenous-led groups observe this day as Orange Shirt Day and champion the message “Every Child Matters.”
The university will be closed on Monday. The Every Child Matters flag will be raised on the Truro and Halifax campuses and will remain raised throughout Mi'kmaw History Month. Cumming Hall (Truro) and the Henry Hicks Building (Halifax) will be lit orange for the evening of September 30.
Steven Burns, who passed away this month at the age of 83, was a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University from 1969 to 2006, and was founding co-organizer of the Atlantic Region Philosophers Association.
