Studley Campus power outage

Posted by Facilities Management on March 30, 2021 in General Announcements

A short power outage affecting Studley Campus is necessary to obtain oil samples from two high voltage transformers. Facilities Management has determined that a brief shutdown of power as follows will enable this maintenance work and cause the least disruption to campus activities:

Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00 AM

1.  Killam Library Transformer - Power down at 7:00 AM; Power back on approximately 7:30 AM Buildings affected: Killam Library, LeMarchant Place (LMP), Security House, Studley Gym, Howe Hall, Chemistry, Chemistry Storage Facility and Macdonald Building. No one will be permitted in any of these buildings during the shutdown and Chemistry, Chemistry Storage and the Macdonald Building will be closed between 7:00 and 9:00 AM.

2.  Goldberg Computer Science Building Transformer - Power down at 7:30 to 8:00 AM; Power back on between 8:00 and 8:30 AM Buildings affected: Goldberg Computer Science Building and the Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building. No one will be permitted in either of these buildings during the shutdown.

The following buildings will be affected as described below. As in past outages, re-routing of power from other buildings or backup generators may be available on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Electrical Project Manager Glen.Deveau@dal.ca to discuss options.

Buildings which will have no back up power (access to these buildings will be restricted during the outage): Chemistry and Macdonald Buildings and Studley Gym

Buildings where essential services only will be supplied by emergency generator (access to these buildings will be restricted during the outage): Killam Library (except the Killam Computer Data Centre which will have full backup power), Marion McCain Arts and Social Sciences Building (FASS), and the Goldberg Computer Science Building

Buildings which will be fully functional with backup power:  Howe Hall, LeMarchant Place (LMP), LeMarchant Street Security Building

Main Power will not be affected: Killam Data Centre

We apologize for an inconvenience this necessary work may cause. If you have any concerns, please contact Electrical Project Manager Glen.Deveau@dal.ca - 902-222-2217 (cell).
