Employment Opportunity: Part-time instructor position - HSTC1801 in the History of Science and Technology Programme (HOST) – Winter 2020

DEADLINE: Revision of applications will start on December 9, 2019 and will continue until positions have been filled.

The University of King's College's History of Science and Technology Programme invites applications for a part-time instructor who would be responsible for the writing components of its Winter 2020 course HSTC 1801 Technology and Engineering: from the Industrial Age to the Cybernetic Age. This writing-intensive course, taught by Dr. Mélanie Frappier, offers a unique historical overview of the development of technology and engineering in Canada while fostering the students' writing and argumentative skills.

Duties:

In consultation with Dr. Frappier, the successful candidate will be responsible of all aspects of the course related to writing instruction and evaluation, including, but not limited to

  • Overseeing TAs
  • Leading weekly teaching staff meeting (Mondays, 10:35-11:25 a.m. Dalhousie Sexton Campus)
  • Developing tutorial content
  • Preparing writing assignments
  • Student evaluation
  • Ensuring an online presence to assist students with assignments.
  • Proctoring (must be available during the final exam period).
  • Grading assignments
  • Regularly meeting with co-instructor.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates may come from various fields (this is a widely interdisciplinary program) but must have:

  • A graduate degree,
  • Experience with writing-intensive courses.
  • Experience with EOL students.

A strong background in the history of technology will be considered an asset but is not required. The University of King's College is an Employment Equity/Affirmative Action Employer.

Pay Rate: $5,232 (for the term)
