The School of Health and Human Performance in Dalhousie's Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, limited term instructor position, commencing January 2020 for a one year term. The primary duties of this position are the preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory experiences, supervision, coordination and training of teaching assistants, and the development of faculty resources to support teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach classes when necessary and contribute to the experiential learning component of the Kinesiology curriculum.

The School of Health and Human Performance vision is physical and mental wellness for all. The School offers programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, and Recreation Management. The Division of Kinesiology is seeking candidates for the position of Limited Term Instructor. The primary duties of this position are the preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory experiences, supervision, coordination and training of teaching assistants, and the development of faculty resources to support teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach classes when necessary and contribute to the experiential learning component of the Kinesiology curriculum.

The successful candidate must have a master's degree in Kinesiology (Ph.D. preferred) or related discipline with expertise in exercise physiology. Certification as Personal Trainer is preferred with either the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology or the American College of Sports Medicine. The successful candidate must have technical skills related to usage and maintenance of exercise physiology related laboratory equipment. Preference will be given to applicants who have previous work experience in a kinesiology setting Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong laboratory technical abilities, teaching experience, and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will work individually, with faculty, staff, teaching assistants and students to grow and improve the delivery of Kinesiology undergraduate and graduate programs. They will be required to teach a three credit hour course such as KINE 3500 (Principles of Measurement and Evaluation). As well, they will provide teaching and technical support (e.g., for a variety of labs with a focus on exercise physiology and exercise testing/prescription as well as supervise teaching assistants. This support will consist of supervising and training teaching assistants, preparing, administering and grading examinations, laboratory assignments and reports for labs with a focus on exercise physiology, such as: KINE 1102 (Physical Activity and Health), KINE 2310 (Physiology of Exercise), KINE 3414 (Exercise Testing and Prescription for Healthy Populations), KINE 3419 (Application of Physiological Principles to Human Performance), KINE 3500 (Principles of Measurement and Evaluation), KINE 4412 (Advanced Exercise Testing and Prescription for Clinical Populations), and KINE 5590 (Measurement and Instrumentation in Human Movement Analysis). It is expected that the successful candidate will supervise directed studies, honours research students, and experiential learning opportunities, as well as participate in Division, School and Faculty-level committees.
