POSITION:  Part-time Academic

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES)

RATE OF PAY: According to the CUPE Agreement  

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The Sessional Instructor will teach Environmental Education (ENVI 5041) during the 2019 fall term.  The Calendar entry is as follows: “Environmental education for all ages is a critical step in fostering sustainable behaviours and achieving higher level environmental goals. This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying environmental education, examining the cognitive and social science underpinnings of behaviour change. Through course readings and experiential "hands-on" learning opportunities, students are invited to critically evaluate how environmental educators create effective and authentically engaging programs. This course examines environmental education for both youth and adults in formal school settings, wilderness settings and in urban settings. Course readings and lectures also explore the influence that mass media has upon environmental behaviour, as well as how policies aim to change and/or modify environmental behaviour.”  The instructor will take direction from syllabi for previous offerings of the course and secure the Director’s approval for the syllabus for this offering.

The course is scheduled for 3 hours per week to be held on Tuesdays, 17:35-20:25, September-December 2019.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:  PhD and/or Masters with equivalent experience in related discipline.  The following qualifications would be considered assets: practical experience in teaching, working and/or community activity in environmental education at the university or post-graduate level; interest/experience in experiential education; curriculum development at local, regional, or international level; experience working with MES students on environmental education research.
