PART-TIME ACADEMIC POSTING

Part-Time Academic, 2019 Summer School, A Term (May 6 –  June 24, 2019)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:

PAY RATE:                                          

As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for a first-year Distance Education class, Introduction to Psychology and Neuroscience I: From Neuron to Person (PSYO 1031.03), in the A Term of Summer School 2019. It is anticipated that the class enrollment will be 100-150 students. The successful applicant will be responsible for administration of course content on the University learning management system (Brightspace), responding to student emails in a timely manner, vetting and communicating with distance proctors, marking lab assessments (with the help of the course TA), creating discussion questions and grading student submissions (with the help of the course TA), vetting pre-recorded lectures and creating new recordings, as well as quiz (x6) and exam (x3) preparation. The successful applicant must be available for two hours per week for online and/or face-to-face student consultation, available to run the in-person exams (x3) for students within 50km of campus, and available to answer questions during the times students are writing with proctors. A Teaching Assistant is provided to support this class. This position consults with the Introduction to Psychology and Neuroscience Coordinator and reports to the Chair of the Department.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Applicants must have a graduate degree in Psychology, demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and have proficiency with delivery of course content using a learning management system (Brightspace in particular). Experience teaching in an online environment is an asset.

The successful applicant will be responsible for administration of course content on the University learning management system (Brightspace), responding to student emails in a timely manner, vetting and communicating with distance proctors, marking lab assessments (with the help of the course TA), creating discussion questions and grading student submissions (with the help of the course TA), vetting pre-recorded lectures and creating new recordings, as well as quiz (x6) and exam (x3) preparation.
