POSITION: Part-Time Academic - THEA 1800.06Y Introduction to Acting and Performance (January 1 - April 30, 2019 (Winter Term 2019)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE:  As per CUPE Collective Agreement          

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of THEA1800.06Y Introduction to Acting and Performance, from January 1 to April 30, 2019 (Winter Term 2019). This course is designed to introduce students to the craft of acting and the collaborative process of creating theatre. The approach is practical, focusing on three major aspects of acting and performance:  Space, Character and Action. Units are comprised of exercises and scene study, with scripts drawn from classical and contemporary plays. The instructor will work closely with teaching staff, using a syllabus common across multiple sections of the course, and is required to prepare and grade all written and performance work, and to calculate and then submit final marks.

This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: The qualifications required for this position include:

(1) MA or MFA;

(2) professional acting experience;

(3) teaching experience at the post-secondary level; and

(4) evidence of strong teaching effectiveness

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of THEA 3800.06Y Acting III, from January 1 to April 30, 2019 (Winter Term 2019). This course is a requirement for students enrolled in the Honors BA in Theatre (Acting Program), and this academic/practitioner will instruct students in action-based script analysis through work on Comedy of Manners texts, as well as in the physical theatre practice of Commedia dell’arte and Restoration Comedy techniques. The instructor will also be required to provide a course outline (including method of assessment), prepare and grade all written and performance work, and to calculate and then submit final marks. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
