The Department of Animal Science and Aquaculture, Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture, Truro, invites applications for a career-stream Instructor or Senior Instructor in Animal Science/Equine Science.  
Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 faculties. Current enrollment is 18,500 graduate and undergraduate students.  An influential driver of the region's intellectual, social and economic development in the context of environmental protections, Dalhousie has campuses in Halifax and Truro and a satellite of its medical school is located nearby in St.John, New Brunswick.  This position is located on the Truro campus.

The Department of Animal Science and Aquaculture offers technical, undergraduate and graduate programs, including Animal Science, Bioveterinary Science, Veterinary Technology and Aquaculture.   The campus has commercial level poultry and mink units, an Aquaculture centre,   dairy herd, sheep flock and  small animal centre, as well as a small stable for horses as needed in the teaching program.

The instructor will have a primary role in the development and coordination of an Equine Science minor in the B.Sc Agr and Bioveterinary Science programs, under the direction of the Department Chair.  The incumbent will teach primarily equine courses at the diploma and degree level.     This includes classroom and laboratory instruction in the fields of equine biology, nutrition and physiology, genetics, health and behaviour, and practical husbandry and management of equine species.  The incumbent will act as primary advisor to students minoring in equine studies, and be the primary contact for this program with industry, other universities and equine organizations.   There will be some involvement in general animal science and bioveterinary science courses. The incumbent may act as advisor to undergraduate students enrolled in the Honours programs.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Animal Science, Equine Science, or a related discipline with demonstrated expertise in equine science.  Experience in the preparation and delivery of university level credit courses and laboratory preparation is required; a minimum of five years of such experience, or a PhD in equine-related science and two years' university teaching experience, is strongly preferred .   Experience in small stable management and demonstrated links with the equine industry are required; experience in equine competition (showing, jumping,) is an asset.    Experience in student academic advising is an asset.    The successful candidate will also possess resourcefulness, innovation, , self-motivation, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
