Posted by Student Affairs on April 28, 2017 in General Announcements

Anne Forrestall, Senior Assistant Vice-Provost, Student Affairs, is pleased to announce the hiring of Cynthia Murphy as Director of the International Centre.

A native of Centreville in Kings County, Nova Scotia, Cynthia graduated from the former Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC now Dalhousie’s Faculty of Agriculture) in 1981 with a Diploma in Agricultural Business. In 2000 she received a BSc in Agriculture from Dalhousie/NSAC. She has also studied Adult Education at Saint Francis Xavier University and anticipates receiving an MA in Integrated Studies from Athabasca University in August.

Cynthia has many years of experience in developing and implementing internationalization and immigrant support programs, including experience at post-secondary education institutions. From 1997 to 2000, she worked at NSAC’s International Centre as Coordinator, Acting Director, and Manager. She then spent seven years at the Nova Scotia Community College Centre for International Activities as Acting Director and Director.

Cynthia then worked as Director of such organizations as CONNECT Immigration Projects, Colleges and Institutes Canada International Programs in Asia and the Middle East, and Canadian Immigrant Integration Program. Since January 2016 she has been Social Science Department Head at New Brunswick Community College, Miramichi.

Cynthia’s move to Dal brings her closer to three of her four daughters, with two of them living in Halifax and one living in Truro. It also brings her back to her passion of working with international students.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Dalhousie community,” she says. “I’m a firm believer in the importance of intercultural understanding and compassion and look forward to applying that to my work with the International Centre team.”

Cynthia starts in her new role at the International Centre on May 1.
