POSITION: Demonstrator/Marker (2 positions - 90 hrs each)
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Biology / SEASIDE
PAY RATE: as per CUPE agreement
PERIOD OF WORK: May 8 – 31, 2017

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Assist the instructor (Dr. Sarah Gutwosky) with the summer class Biology 3622.03, Ornithology. which is taught between May 13-26, 2017. Duties include helping with the logistics of labs and field trips; marking assignments; driving students in 7-passenger minivans; being on watch for safety issues in the field; spending one week off campus at field stations with students; coordinating student activities at the field station, including meals, schedules, cleaning, and student project-related logistics; and obtaining food and supplies for field trips.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: B.Sc. in Biology or a related field; ornithology class or equivalent experience in avian research; ability to identify species of birds in Nova Scotia by sight and sound; enthusiasm getting up early in the morning; up-to-date Standard first-aid and CPR certification; driver's license valid in NS, extensive driving experience, and good driving record; good physical condition (considerable hiking and some moderate physical labour is required). Graduate research and/or work experience in ornithology will be considered an asset.

POSITION: Demonstrator/Marker – 70 hours
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Biology / SEASIDE
PAY RATE: as per CUPE agreement
PERIOD OF WORK: June 5-30, 2017
WORK ASSIGNMENT: Assist the instructor (Isabelle Aubé) with the summer class BIOL/MARI/ENVS 3664.03, Intertidal Ecology and Diversity.
Duties include: Answering questions, offering feedback, and
being available for any safety issues in the field (including
overnight trips); marking exercises; organizing equipment and
supplies; logistics and preparation for the field trips; and driving
students in 7-passenger vans on the field trips.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Minimum 3rd year of B.Sc. in Biology or a related field; experience in field work and/or courses on marine invertebrates
and/or seaweeds; up-to-date standard first-aid and CPR
certification; and good physical condition - some moderate
hiking in uneven and slippery terrain. Moderate physical labour
will be required. A driver’s license valid in Nova Scotia, a clean
driving record, and willingness/ ability to drive students in a 7-
passenger van. WHMIS certification may be required before the
start of the course.
