The Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University campus is located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, food, environment, and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies.  This position will be located in the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, Truro, Nova Scotia. The Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences offers a stimulating academic environment featuring a breadth of expertise, a strong applied research focus, and linkages across the university and beyond.

The Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure stream faculty position in geospatial and environmental data acquisition and informatics at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.  The incumbent is expected to teach at technical, undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise honours, MSc and PhD students.  The incumbent is also expected to teach internationally using blended teaching methodologies in universities with established articulation agreements. The incumbent will attract external funding for research, including national granting council funding, regional and provincial granting agencies and publish in peer-reviewed, high impact journals and other respected venues. The incumbent will become an active and engaged member of the Faculty, working on projects and committees to promote continuous improvement in research, teaching and learning at Dalhousie.

The candidate must have a PhD in a discipline relevant to geospatial information, data acquisition, analysis and management. Expertise is required in at least three of the following: (i) geospatial information systems and related software with application in agriculture, soil, land, and water resource mapping, (ii) innovative technologies in geographic positioning systems, remote sensing and multi-spectral imaging (satellite, photogrammetric, UAVs) and their application in agriculture, (iii) data acquisition, analysis, application in land, water and resource management; terrestrial ecosystem monitoring, (iv) management of large data sets to assess terrestrial ecosystem condition, and (v) developing real-time/temporal data collection, analysis, and management tools and developing diagnostic support systems. The selected candidate should have demonstrated potential or ability to lead multidisciplinary teams; to publish original research in peer reviewed journals; to obtain competitive research grants; and to teach and effectively communicate in English in both oral and written formats. The candidate should also have demonstrated potential or excellence in conducting research and in technology transfer, the ability to supervise graduate student research, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to work in co-operation with a number of university, government, industry and producer groups.
