There are obvious clues to the fact that Maike Van Niekerk isn’t an average university student.

In her fourth year of nursing at Dalhousie University, Van Niekerk wears a dress to class every day, hasn’t worn jeans since high school, keeps up on movies by getting a synopsis from a friend who has time to watch them and carries a leather satchel that screams serious student.

And she was just named a Rhodes Scholar.
