Study on sharing and mood for 5‑ and 6‑year‑olds

Posted by Psychology & Neuroscience on September 29, 2016 in General Announcements

At the Early Social Development Lab at Dalhousie University, we use simple, interactive games to learn about children’s social development. We’re currently looking for 5- to 6-year-old children to participate in a study on how sharing affects mood. Children are eligible to take part if they are 5 or 6 years old, English speaking, and do not have any diagnosed developmental disabilities (such as Autism or Down Syndrome) or any diagnosed psychological disorders (such as Anxiety or Mood Disorders).

In this study, we will ask children to watch a sad video about a little girl who loses her dog, then play a sticker game where they will either have the option to actively share, passively observe sharing, or passively receive stickers. This will help us see if sharing can improve children’s mood.

Participation involves one 30-minute visit to the Early Social Development Lab at Dalhousie University. We’re available 7 days a week (morning, afternoon and evening) and would be happy to accommodate your family’s schedule. We have reserved parking for parents and children receive a certificate and a small toy as a thank-you for coming in!

If you have any questions or are interested in participating, please contact Julie at esdl@dal.ca or (902) 494-6106.
