Dal Voice Discusses OPERA IN A DIGITAL AGE with MICHAEL HIDETOSHI MORI and ASITHA TENNEKOON
In these uncertain times, those turning to the performing arts for their solace and their studies face many challenges as they come to terms with our ‘new normal’ and what that entails for our practice, both in and outside the studio. We are opening DalVoice Discusses with ‘Opera in a digital age’ specifically for this reason. We want to give our students and arts community the chance to explore the positives that this time of change can have on our art form, and open their hearts and minds to the opportunities that lie before us during this unique time in history. We want to present the solutions, not the problems.
‘The greatest art is built specifically for its medium and our Digital Commissions invest in opera specifically for digital platforms. What kind of work would we create if we accepted that the creators may never meet? If the singer’s distance was part of the opportunity, not an obstacle to overcome? What kind of opera would emerge from infinite but intangible connection?’ – Tapestry Opera
