Dalhousie Reading Circle Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls formally released its final report in June 2019.  Divided into two volumes with 11 chapters, including 231 calls for justice, the report reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada's staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people, and calls for transformative social and legal change.

A reading circle is being formed at Dalhousie University to inform on the narrative of Indigenous women within Canadian society. We invite all members of the Dalhousie community to come together to read, discuss, and make a plan of action on the Calls for Justice for Dalhousie University.

Reading sessions happen weekly, so consistency of attendance is appreciated but at the discretion of attendees. This is a process of hearing and educating ourselves and others. We recognize that this report contains depth and severity on the impacts of trauma, violence and genocide, and our hope is that we will support each other, however additional support will be available on-site for Indigenous students.

Each week, groups will be formed, and chapters will be assigned, where a portion of the time will be designated for discussion. We welcome people from all levels of knowledge and experience.
