Cross Institutional Technology Enabled Learning Event:

Fostering Faculty Collaboration on Effective Practice with Technology and Teaching


On Nov, 14th, the Technology Enabled Learning Committee (TEL) is coordinating a full day event that will showcase faculty’s effective practice from across all of Nova Scotia. The event a collaborative partnership between: 

  • NSCC
    Dalhousie University 
  • St. Mary's University 
  • NSCAD 
  • Mount Saint Vincent University 
  • Cape Breton University 
  • Acadia University 
  • St. FX University 

 

The purpose of the event is to connect faculty and other professionals from across post-secondary institutes to share their important work on how they effectively utilize technology in their teaching. During the event, there will be four institutes connected via video conference hosting presenters and attendees. There will be presenters representing each partnering institute. The event locations are:

  • Truro – NSCC
  • HRM - NSCC (Ivany campus)
  • Sydney – Cape Breton University
  • Wolfville - Acadia University

Dr. David Porter, Ed. D. 

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of eCampusOntario 

“David was formerly Associate VP Educational Support and Innovation at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Prior to that appointment, David was the Executive Director of BCcampus. During his term at BCcampus, David and his team engineered Canada’s first government funded open textbook program, a leading-edge development in higher education in 2012.

David has also worked as a project leader and consultant for international open and distance learning projects, most recently in Mongolia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. He is a co-editor of the International Journal of eLearning and Distance Education (IJEDE.ca), an open access journal published on behalf of the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE).” http://set.royalroads.ca/advisory-council/dr-david-porter.

The event is being sponsored by a partnership between Labour and Advanced Education (LAE), and the TEL Committee. The TEL committee is currently composed of institutional representatives at both executive and operational levels that advance several initiatives related to technology and teaching such as:
• Shared system supports
• Open educational resources
• Digital and classroom accessibility
• Faculty professional development in the area of technology enabled learning.

This is an excellent opportunity to network with faculty and professionals from other Nova Scotia institutes. This event is free, with lunch and snacks provided.
