The Basics of Conflict Resolution
Presented by Janice MacInnis, Human Resources
Got conflict or tension in your relationships? You are not alone. Yet many people struggle with how to deal with it. Don’t allow yourself to fall prey to the myths of conflict:
“If I ignore it, it will go away.”
“If I bring it up, it will hurt the relationship.”
“If I mention it, it will cause anger.”
Ignoring it probably guarantees that the problem will continue. Letting people know how you feel about issues is more likely to strengthen a relationship when it’s done appropriately. Raising concerns may lead to anger, however we can explore appropriate responses.
This workshop will provide tools to aid in addressing problems and resolving interpersonal differences:
- Learn ways to tune in to what is happening in conflict situations to be able to respond rather than react.
- Discover your own conflict style and how it may impact you and others.
- Practice conversational strategies that counteract defensiveness and blame.
