Last week, Dalhousie was named among the top 100 universities in the world in its broader social impact.

And while it’s the first time the university has been ranked in that particular Times Higher Education survey, the scope and scale of Dal’s impact should come as no surprise to those who see the university’s work up close in Atlantic Canada, across the country and beyond.

Stories of Dal’s impact shine through in this year’s edition of the Dalhousie University Community Report. Released each spring, it emphasizes stories, projects and experiences that demonstrate Dal’s important role in its local community and across the region, country and world.

“It showcases the best of what’s possible when we work together, across sectors, to achieve shared goals,” says President Deep Saini. “The stories you’ll find within speak to the same sense of partnership and collaboration that are guiding us through these difficult times.”

Those difficult times include the current pandemic, and this year’s report includes highlights from how the university has come together — as One Dalto respond to the challenges posed by COVID-19 on campus and in our communities. Other spotlights in the report shine a light on the the Faculty of Science’s Sciographies podcast, the creation of the New Dawn Staff of Place and Belonging, Dal’s outstanding Academic All-Canadian student-athletes, and the community support provided by the Dal Security team.

The Dalhousie University Community Report 2019-20 is now available online and is being shared with community partners. The digital publication is developed and designed by the university’s Communications, Marketing and Creative Services team.
