Winding down the year with a holiday tradition

The classes are finished, the exams are done — but the calendar year isn't truly nearing its end on campus until the Annual Dalhousie Carol Sing.

Organized by the President's Office, the event invites the Dal community and friends together for a journey through the holiday songbook: classic carols, contemporary holiday anthems like Rudolph and Frosty, as well as songs for Hannukah ("The Dreidel Song") and in French ("Il est né, le divin Enfant").

This year's event, hosted by Interim President Teri Balser with Fountain School Director Jacqueline Warwick leading the musical proceedings, featured more voices than just the public chorus. Students Emmanuel Solomon and Nicole Keeping not only helped guide the singalong, but provided lead vocals of their own: a duet on "O Holy Night," Emmanuel's Nigerian holiday song "Odun Yi A Yabo" and Nicole's take on Roger Miller's "Old Toy Trains." Keigan Sack of Eastern Eagle also opened the event with a song, and Fountain School faculty member Steve Baur's drum also made an appearance.
