Dalhousie MUSCLE MLK Athletes of the Week

(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie University presents our MUSCLE MLK Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 8, 2019.

Maya Venkataraman, Soccer

Fourth-year midfielder Maya Venkataraman is this week’s MUSCLE MLK Female Athlete of the Week.

Maya scored two goals to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 start to the regular season over the weekend.

In Friday night’s regular season opener in Moncton, New Brunswick, Maya scored the Tigers first goal just seven minutes into the game. She scored the Tigers fourth and final goal as well, giving Dalhousie a 4-0 win over the Aigles Bleues.

She recorded five shots on net during the match.

A medical sciences student, Maya is from Summerland, B.C.

Freddy Bekkers, Soccer

Fifth-year midfielder Freddy Bekkers is this week’s MUSCLE MLK Male Athlete of the Week.

Freddy was named the Subway Player of the Game in the Tigers 3-2 win over the Aigles Bleus Friday night in Moncton.

He recorded three shots in the game in addition to providing many more opportunities setting up plays for his teammate’s eight shots on net.

A native of Halifax, N.S., Freddy is an engineering student.
