More than 60 researchers from Dalhousie University are receiving a combined $1.7 million from the Government of Canada for projects that will play an important role in building a healthier, stronger and more prosperous Canada.
The funding is being awarded through grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), one of the three federal granting councils responsible for supporting the researchers and scholars who are strengthening science and evidence-based decision making, while nurturing a culture of curiosity in Canada.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 30 at Queen’s University by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport. The total investment being made by the government is $141 million, which will support nearly 3,000 of Canada’s most talented scholars, including early-career researchers, across the country.
The researchers receiving funding will tackle a wide array of topics, including: youth priorities in the North, climate change, energy, big data, and many pressing issues.
“Social sciences and humanities research is at the heart of understanding the challenges and opportunities facing our communities and our people,” said The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, in a news release. “Nurturing young talent in these disciplines is one of the nest ways to build a healthier, stronger and more prosperous Canada.”
