Spooky!
Spooky!

From time to time here on Dal News, we've checked in on "Penelope," the famed ghost that purportedly haunts Dal's Shirreff Hall residence.

The spooky story varies depending on who you ask, but the core of the ghostly tale involves a young woman named Penelope — a student in some versions, a worker in others. Shortly after the residence opened in the 1920s, she supposedly fell in love with a professor and became pregnant, but the professor refused to help her. Distraught, she hung herself in the bell tower.

Are the halls of Shirreff haunted? While we've never found evidence to suggest any truth to the tales, that hasn't stopped Penelope's story from being passed down through generations of students. This year, the Dal Student Life Street Team decided to investigate matters for themselves.
