Undergraduate Degree Options
There are many ways to do a BSc
Main degree options
BSc Major Programs (120 credit hour)
This is the standard BSc degree and is usually completed in four years. Students select a Major from the programs offered by the Faculty of Science. Each Major program is designed to develop knowledge and expertise within that subject area. Detailed information on program requirements can be found in the undergraduate calendar.
BSc Honours Programs (120 Credit Hour)
Honours programs provide the opportunity for students gain additional knowledge and expertise in a Major subject. A higher quality of course work is required, and students conduct independent research and produce a thesis. Honours programs are strongly recommended for students who wish to eventually pursue a graduate degree. Information on options and requirements can be found in the undergraduate calendar.
BSc (90 Credit Hour)
The BSc (90 credit hour) degree requires less specialization in a single subject, and is usually completed in three years. Students graduate with a Minor rather than a Major subject. A list of eligible Minor subjects can be found in the undergraduate calendar
Note: Some science programs are also available as BA degrees. See the undergraduate calendar for differences in BSc and BA requirements.
Combined degree options
BSc, Double Major or Combined Honours (120-credit hour)
A Double Major or Combined Honours program allows for concentration in two subject areas. Both may be science subjects, or one may be from the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, the Faculty of Computer Science or the College of Sustainability. Information on possible combinations and requirements can be found in the undergraduate calendar
Students may combine most 120 credit hour Major or Honours programs with a Minor program in another subject area. Detailed descriptions of the minors offered by the Faculty of Science can be found here. A list of all eligible minors can be found in the undergraduate calendar
Concurrent BSc/BEng (Bachelor of Engineering)
The concurrent BSc/BEng program awards students degrees in both Science and Engineering, and typically takes 5 years to complete. This opportunity may appeal to students with career objectives in multi-disciplinary fields such as biomedical engineering, environmental science, or materials science. More information on eligibility and requirements can be found in the descriptions of program requirements in the undergraduate calendar
Even more options
Co-operative Education (Co-op) Option
Most BSc (120 credit hour) Major or Honours programs may be taken with a Co-op option. Program course requirements are the same, but students also complete three co-op work terms. Detailed information on the Co-op program can be found here. The names of co-op advisors can found in the descriptions of particular programs in the undergraduate calendar.
Students in any 90 or 120 credit hour program in the Faculty of Science may obtain one or more Certificates that attest to specialization or knowledge in a particular area. Detailed descriptions of the certificates available to Faculty of Science students can be found here
