However\, their statistical properties are sometimes easier to understand: while deterministic\, some systems tend to behave like a random process on large scales of times. During this talk\, I will motivate the study of hyperbolic dynamical systems and explain how this behavior may be understood through the spectrum of an operator (the Ruelle spectrum)\, using functional analytic techniques developed in the last two decades. I will finally mention the relationship between the Ruelle spectrum and the periodic orbits of the system\, touching upon the topic of dynamical zeta functions and trace formulae for hyperbolic dynamical systems.\n  LOCATION:Note that the talk will be streamed live in Chase 319.  Graduate students are encouraged to attend! \nJoin Zoom Meeting\n\n \nMeeting ID: 824 6842 1272\nPasscode: 387719\nOne tap mobile\n+13126266799\,\,82468421272#\,\,\,\,*387719# US (Chicago)\n+13462487799\,\,82468421272#\,\,\,\,*387719# US (Houston)\n \nDial by your location\n        +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n        +1 346 248 7799 US (Houston)\n        +1 646 558 8656 US (New York)\n        +1 669 900 9128 US (San Jose)\n        +1 253 215 8782 US (Tacoma)\n        +1 301 715 8592 US (Washington DC)\nMeeting ID: 824 6842 1272\nPasscode: 387719\nFind your local number: URL: UID: END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
