The sixth Atlantic Margins Conference will be held at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 19-22, 2018.
Halifax 2018 builds upon the success of previous conjugate margins conferences. It provides a venue for industry, academic and government geoscientists working in the basins of the Atlantic realm to meet and share knowledge and ideas with the goal of better understanding their evolution and petroleum systems. Three days of oral and poster presentations are planned under six thematic sessions:
• Geodynamics-Rift to Drift
• Stratigraphy & Sedimentology
• Regional Geology
• Geochemistry & Petroleum Systems
• Exploration Thinking for the Atlantic Conjugate Margins
• Geoheritage Sites & Geoscience Collections
The conference will also offer participants the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational and networking events that includes two field trips, two salt-related courses (one class and one field), a core workshop, a special “Early Jurassic Earth System and Timescale (JET) Workshop”, corporate displays and seismic data rooms. A special part of the event is the awarding of an honorary doctorate degree from Dalhousie University to Dr. John F. Dewey for his seminal work on the causative mechanisms of plate tectonic processes.
