Two distinguished former faculty members recently celebrated significant birthdays. Dr. Clint Milligan turned 95 on September 5. Dr. Basil Cooke turned 99 on October 18. The department sent birthday greetings to both of them.

Thanks to M. Graves for stepping into the breach to represent both Earth Sciences and DISP at the Open House on October 25.
Thanks to Ann Bannon for co-ordinating the Awards Day preparations, and to Tom Duffett for putting together a birthday greeting for Basil Cooke at very short notice.
Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s undergraduate awards, presented on October 3.
Sean Kelly won the MacEachern-Ponsford Award, which goes to a student who has excelled in Field School, who is of honours caliber and who has been an active participant in student activities.
Erin Anderson and Samantha Hamilton were jointly awarded the Michael Keen Memorial Award, which is given annually to a female student entering the second year of the Earth Sciences programme, with performance of honours calibre.
Maya Soukap won the Douglas Award, which goes to a student entering second year, with a good academic record and active participation in class affairs.
Patrick Manion won the James L. Hall Scholarship, awarded in alternate years to a student in Earth Sciences or Engineering who has completed the first year with high academic standing.
