Application & Admission Process

Admission Requirements

  • The intensive nature of this program requires applicants to have a secondary school diploma equivalent to Academic Grade 11. Please see the FAQ page for a list of diplomas that are suitable for entry into the IPY Program but not sufficient for undergraduate admission to Dalhousie University.
  • English proficiency: One of the following is required to enter the IPY program.
    • IELTS 5.0
    • TOEFL iBT 61
    • Cambridge First B2
    • Dalhousie Placement Test B1 or equivalent.

If you are not sure if you meet the English requirement, you may take the Dalhousie Placement Test online before applying. If you do not meet the English requirement for the program, you can complete English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Foundations 1 and/or Foundations 2 prior to beginning the IPY Program. Learn more about the EAP program by clicking here or contact the English Language Studies Department at els@dal.ca for more information.

Application Deadlines

You can apply for the IPY Program at any time. However, to account for student visa processing time, we strongly recommend applying at least four months before your program begins.

For more information on the application process, see Dalhousie’s Applying for Undergraduate Studies page.
