Halifax, NS – In a significant development, Dalhousie University's Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development (FOLCD) has signed a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Agreement with the Calgary Police Service (CPS). This partnership is set to provide CPS officers with advanced standing in specific non-credit certificate programs, recognizing their extensive training and experience.
CPS officers who have completed the Community Policing Module, along with any one of the Investigative Skills Module, Legal Studies Module, or Specialized Investigations Module in the CPS Training Program will receive credit towards Dalhousie's Policing the Modern Community course.
The agreement allows CPS graduates to apply for advanced standing in the Police Leadership Certificate program through the RPL program. This partnership offers CPS officers the opportunity to further their education without duplicating their prior learning and experience. It supports continuous professional development and enhances career prospects within the policing field.
“We are pleased to partner with Dalhousie University to offer a new professional development opportunity for our officers,” said Adam Smith, Director of the Recruitment, Learning and Development Section at the Calgary Police Service. “We are always looking for new ways to support our officers in furthering their education and enhancing their knowledge so they can grow in their careers and continue providing the best possible service to Calgarians.”
"This partnership with the Calgary Police Service underscores the importance of continuous learning and the value of recognizing prior learning. By providing CPS officers with advanced standing in our programs, we are facilitating their access to further education and supporting their professional growth," said Jennifer Hann, Acting Dean, Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development.
This collaboration highlights the mutual benefits of institutional partnerships and the commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. It ensures that CPS officers can leverage their existing skills and knowledge to achieve new educational and career milestones.
