Griffiths was born in Rangoon\, Burma\, and educated at McDonogh School\, Maryland\, McGill University (BA ’54) and Harvard (MBA ’56).\nIn 1956\, he began his career with Canadian Resins and Chemicals in market research and product development. In 1959-60 he was a management consultant and joined a client\, Consumers Packaging Limited in Toronto as Manager of Marketing. From 1966-71\, he was Executive Vice President (COO).\nIn 1971\, he joined Jonlab Investments Limited in Toronto as President and CEO. Jonlab was a diversified financial holding company\, with interests in a variety of manufacturing and service companies. From 1973-79 he was Chairman and CEO of Canadian Cablesystems Limited of Toronto.\nFrom 1980-89 he was associated with Connor\, Clark & Company Ltd. of Toronto\, an investment management group. From 1979-85\, he also held the positions of Vice Chairman\, Chairman of the Executive Committee\, and President and CEO at Harding Carpets Limited\, Toronto\, and Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Cable America Inc. of Atlanta\, Georgia.\nFrom 1985-87\, he was President and CEO of Mitel Corporation\, becoming Chairman of the Board in July 1987. In January 1991 he again assumed the position of President and CEO of Mitel in addition to his role as Chairman of the Board\, and relinquished the CEO role in January 1993. He left the Board of Mitel in July 1993. From February to June 1995 Mr. Griffiths was President and CEO of The Ondaatje Corporation. From 1993 to the present\, Mr. Griffiths has been associated with various companies acting as an independent consultant.\nAt present\, Mr. Griffiths is the Chairman of Novadaq Technologies Inc. and a Director of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited\, Fairfax India Holdings Corporation\, Blue Ant Media Inc. and Babel Bark\, Inc.\nPreviously\, he was Chairman of Russel Metals Inc.\, Leitch Technology Corp. and Meridian Technologies Ltd.\, and a director of Vitran Corporation\, AbitibiBowater Inc.\, Bronco Energy Limited\, Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.\, Canadian Tire Corporation\, Calian Technology Ltd.\, Hub International Limited\, ShawCor Ltd. and The Brick Ltd.
