SUMMARY:Can the Public Contribute to Plastic Pollution Policy-Making through Community Science? A Vision for Participatory Legislation
DESCRIPTION:Community scientists contribute substantially to our understanding of the global plastic pollution crisis. In this lecture I will reflect on how the evidence can be made relevant for policy-making. I will discuss the quality of data collected by volunteers and present a vision for meaningful involvement of community scientists in legislation.\nDr. Tim Kiessling\, a marine biologist with the School Lab\, Kiel University\, Germany\, is a visiting post-doc at Dalhousie University. His work focuses on involving children and teachers in research with citizen and community science approaches.
