The health and well-being of our students is our number one priority, and it is vital we do our part to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The Management Career Services office is currently open Monday to Friday, 9:00AM to 4:30PM. While our appointments will continue to be conducted primarily online, an in-person appointment may be available upon request. Please email your appointment provider directly to confirm their in-person appointment availability, based on their scheduled days onsite in the Rowe. Visit for ongoing updates from the university.

Communications to Students and Employers

Below are a set of commonly-asked questions. All students are advised to continue to check their email for future updates, and to check in with their supervisors/recruiters frequently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Winter 2022 Work Term

What are my options for Winter 2022?

Students completing a work term in Winter 2022 are expected to conduct a thorough job search. All work terms must meet the stated program requirements (minimum 12 weeks for Commerce Co-op, 32 weeks for Corporate Residency MBA).

Can I accept a position that involves work from home?

Yes. MCS has a process to approve virtual working and will take that into consideration when approving your work term record. Contact Management Career Services for more information.

Can I work outside of Canada?

Global Affairs Canada has lifted its travel advisory to avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada and has reverted to destination-specific travel advisories. Students are now permitted to travel to countries marked as “exercise normal security precautions” or “exercise high degree of caution” for their work terms without an exemption from their dean.

Students who are planning to take part in an international work term are required to have the appropriate work authorization in place and to consult with faculty advisors and the International Centre before finalizing any travel plans. All eligible travellers should be fully vaccinated by completing a COVID-19 vaccine series at least 14 days before travelling.

For country-specific information regarding COVID-19, including quarantine and entry requirements, please visit the Dalhousie International SOS member webpage.

Full details are available on the Campus Life webpage.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements and Work Terms

Per Dalhousie’s broader messaging, we strongly encourage all Dalhousie students to get vaccinated against COVID-19. As previously announced, Dalhousie is now implementing a process in which all students, faculty, and staff must provide proof of their vaccination status or take part in twice weekly COVID-19 testing to access university campuses.

We have been asked what this new process means for students during their work term. While on your co-op, internship, or corporate residency, you are an employee of the organization where your work integrated learning experience is hosted. As such, you must adhere to any COVID-19 policies and requirements of your work term host.

Students seeking a future work term may find they are required to provide evidence of COVID-19 vaccination during an organization’s recruitment process or before beginning their work term employment. Students who cannot (or choose not to) provide proof of vaccination may have reduced work term opportunities.

Information concerning vaccine and testing requirements, on-campus vaccination clinics and rapid testing is available via the Dalhousie University COVID-19 Information Page.

Co-op Work Permit

All students applying or approved for a Canadian government-issued Study Permit will also require a Co-op Work Permit to complete a work term in Canada, and should apply as early as possible due to lengthy processing times. Please note that the application process is different from outside of Canada.

The Dalhousie International Centre team can provide guidance and assist you with completing and submitting your application.

If you are currently seeking a work term, please email with your location and permit application status updates regularly, so we can provide you with the proper job search support.
