Business Families Foundation
A key partner in the Centre for Family Business and Regional Prosperity's efforts is the Business Families Foundation (BFF) founded in 1993 by the de Gaspe Beaubien family. The foundation's primary purpose is to encourage the study and development of educational programs that address the specific needs of family-owned firms. The BFF has designed a detailed educational course for family business education, known as the RoadMap Program. It has also successfully trained many professionals to better assist family enterprises and address their unique set of challenges.
In addition, the foundation has supported the creation of family business centres in prominent universities across Canada: University of British Columbia, University of Alberta, Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, McGill University, and Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Montreal. This network of family centres maintains close contact, ensuring the smooth design and delivery of programs and education. Dalhousie's Faculty of Management is closely aligned with this network and has received informal support for the Centre from key stakeholders associated with the BFF.
