Posted by School of Law on July 2, 2014 in Alumni & Friends, News

Congratulations!

The Schulich School of Law would like to congratulate three outstanding alumni on their recent appointments to the Order of Canada. Taking the Weldon Tradition to heart, Kimberley Pate, CM (’84); Joseph B. Marshall, CM, ONS (’93); and Sir Judson Graham Day, OC, ONS, CD, QC (’56) were each recognized for their personal contributions to their community and Canada as a whole. They were among 86 new appointments to the Order on June 30, 2014.

Established in 1967, the Order of Canada is one of our country’s highest civilian honours. It recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.

Both Kimberley Pate of Ottawa, Ontario and Joseph B. Marshall of Eskasoni, Nova Scotia were appointed as Members of the Order of Canada, which recognises a lifetime of distinguished service in or to a particular community, group or field of activity. Pate was appointed to the Order for her work advocating on behalf of women who are marginalized, victimized or incarcerated, and for her research on women in the criminal justice system. Marshall was appointed to the Order for his contributions to the preservation and promotion of Nova Scotia’s Mi’kmaq language and culture.

Sir Judson Graham Day of Hantsport, Nova Scotia was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.  This distinction recognizes a lifetime of achievement and merit of a high degree, especially in service to Canada or to humanity at large. Day received his appointment to acknowledge his contributions to the corporate sector, for his mentorship, and for his active involvement in community initiatives throughout urban and rural Nova Scotia.

Congratulations go out from all of us at the Schulich School of Law to Pate, Marshall, and Day on their accomplishments!
