Third year Schulich School of Law student, David Shore, is the 2013 recipient of the JSD Tory Award in legal writing.
The Tory Prize Committee — Emma Baasch, Samantha Ratnam and Professor Faye Woodman unanimously selected David's paper, "Lifting the Veil of Secrecy on Jury Nullification in Canada" from the submissions.
"We were impressed with the quality of writing and the clearness and development of the argument [and thought that the] proposal to reform the law regarding jury nullification constituted an original contribution to the literature," said Professor Woodman.
The JSD Tory Writing Award was established by the law firm of Tory, Tory, DesLauriers & Binnington in memory of the late JSD Tory, to provide annually an award to recognize legal writing excellence at the Schulich School of Law. In addition, the award is to be used, if possible, to encourage the winner to do additional research and writing with a view to publication.
